NORTHPORT Dorothy C. Ables finished her journey on this earth Jan. 23, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Stephen Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is also having an exciting reunion in Heaven with her husband of 58 years, George Marshall Ables; her parents, Robert L. and Ida C. Coleman; her sister, Kathryn C. Hoggle; her brothers, Jimmy and Joe Coleman; and many other family members and friends who have passed on.

She leaves on this earth to love and cherish her memory her children, Carol Ables van der Blom (John) and Charlotte Ables Johnson of Tuscaloosa, Sarah Nell Geddie of Northport, Vernon Coleman of Northport, R.L. Coleman of Marion, and Hazel Johnson of Cottondale; grandchildren, Tina, Tim, George, Angela, and David; great-grandchildren, Kimber, Joshua, and Abbigail; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mother was born November 1, 1930. She grew up in Perry County and graduated from Perry County High School. She and her family have spent the past 50-plus years in the Tuscaloosa County area. She worked as Office Manager and Bookkeeper alongside her husband in the family business, Ables Garage, until they retired.

Mother's hands were never idle. For many years she donated her talent and time to Tuscaloosa First Assembly of God Church as Secretary. Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher. She was an excellent seamstress. She made most of the clothes she and her daughters wore. She even sewed clothes for children in our church so they could have nice clothes for summer church camp. Mother made the best pecan pies, and on special occasions, we knew she would bake enough pies for everyone to take one home.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Honorary pallbearers are Jeanine S. Garrett, Marietta Summerville, James L. and Juanice Smith, Tom and Lolly Whitehead, Rev. Robert H. and Mrs. Ann Spence, Hospice of West Alabama care team, Home Instead Senior Care, friends and family of Pineview Assembly of God, Skyland Boulevard Baptist, and TFA.

To all who contributed to Mother's life, especially as it came to a close, her family humbly offers a profound thank you for all you did. We felt the prayers you lifted up on our families' behalf.

"Many women do noble things, but you surpassed them all; charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who has a loving reverence for God is to be praised." – Proverbs 31:29-30.

Please, no flowers. Honor Mother's memory with a donation to The Gideons International, a memorial Bible program, P.O. Box 70181, Tuscaloosa, AL 35407.

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." – Matthew 24:35.
