HOLT Hazel McCarter Baker, age 79, of Holt, died peacefully Feb. 23, 2010, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Holt Baptist Church with Rev. Phil Boyles officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to services at the church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Coy and Annie B. Williams; her husband, Charlie McCarter; her sister, Lida Lockman Hamner; and her brothers, Leonard L. Williams and Otis Williams.
Survivors include her husband, Royce C. Baker; her daughters, Regina McCarter Horne (Carl) and Vicki McCarter Hubbard (Victor); and her son, Charles J. McCarter (Shawn), all of Tuscaloosa; six stepchildren from Texas and California; her grandchildren, Chris Horne (Karen), Mitzi Colburn (Jeff), Josh Ashcraft (Sarah), Shannon Thomas (Jon), Leslie Essman (Louis), and Ryan McCarter; her step-grandsons, Russ Hubbard (Laura) and Wes Hubbard (Carrie); and her great-grandchildren, Carli, Caleb, and Camdyn Colburn, Annika Horne, Carter and Anna Lake Ashcraft, and Henry Essman.
Hazel was born in Holt, Alabama on April 27, 1930. She was a lifelong resident of Holt and a 1948 graduate of Holt High School. She was a member of Holt Baptist Church, Rebekkah Sunday School class, and Thursday Morning Live Bible Study class. She was a giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Her family was the center of her life, and her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the love of her life.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Holt Baptist Church and friends and neighbors.
