TUSCALOOSA Philip Glenn Nix, age 57, of Tuscaloosa, died April 26, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Park with Rev. Walter Rezendes officiating and Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

He was preceded in death by his father, William G. Nix; his father-in-law, Melton Presnall; and his mother-in-law, Betty Presnall.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Nix of Tuscaloosa; his daughter, Jennifer Nix Posada (Jobo Isaias Posada); his son, Kevin William Nix (Monica Higgins Nix); his sister, Brenda Nix; his brother, David Nix (Lisa); his mother, Greta Nix; and his grandchildren, Tyler, Tanner, and Victoria Posada and Lexie and Millie Nix.

Phillip served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1976. He retired from the Electrical Department of the University of Alabama in 2004 after 35 years of service. He went to work at MBUSI in 2006, but resigned due to health problems. In 2007 he was diagnosed with ALS. He loved Alabama football and very seldom missed a home game, whether watching or working.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother. His family was his life. His wife was his faithful caretaker for the past five years as together they fought against his horrible disease. His grandchildren always brought a light to his eyes and a smile to his face.

Pallbearers will be Brian Love, Jody Gobel, Michael Bracey, BJ Barr, Riley Nix, and Morris Wheeler. Junior pallbearers will be Tyler and Tanner Posada.

Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Thomas Emig, Dr. John Warren, Tuscaloosa VA Medical Center and staff, MedAssist, Hospice of West Alabama, Sherri and David Stone, the local ALS Foundation, Rev. James Walker, past and present employees of the University of Alabama Electrical Department, Shawna Medders, Dr. Nichani, and Jim, Angela, Pam, and Billie Crowe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS Foundation and Hospice of West Alabama in honor of Philip Nix.
