TUSCALOOSA Judge Robert V. Wooldridge Jr., age 86, of Tuscaloosa, died February 25, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Private services will be observed for the family. Visitation with the family will be 11:00 a.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Judge Wooldridge, known to his friends and colleagues as Bob and Bookie, was born in Aliceville, Alabama, to Von and Annie Wooldridge on September 27, 1926. The family moved in 1936 to Tuscaloosa, which remained his home throughout his life. He graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1943, and served in the Navy during World War II. Following the war, he returned to the University of Alabama, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order and head UA cheerleader in 1946. He was awarded undergraduate and law degrees from The University of Alabama. Following completion of law school in 1951, he entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant serving in the Korean War, in which he was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action against the Chinese forces. Upon return from the war, he began his law practice that continued for over 50 years in Tuscaloosa, practicing as a sole practitioner until joined by two of his sons. All three of his sons, as well as two grandsons, have followed in his very large and inspiring footsteps in becoming lawyers. He also served with distinction for over 18 years as Municipal Judge for the City of Tuscaloosa.

Judge Wooldridge is survived by his beloved wife, Florene J. Wooldridge; his children, David M. Wooldridge (Becky) of Homewood, Linda Davidson (Joe), Robert V. “Bobby” Wooldridge III (Cathy), Judge Charles Robert “Chuck” Malone (Terri), and Angela W. Sherlock (Eddie), all of Tuscaloosa; his grandchildren, Shannon Weaver, Daley W. King (Chris), Clay Wooldridge (Emily), Bradley Wooldridge (Hyla), Chase Malone (Mandie), Katie M. St. Sure of Honolulu, Hawaii; and his brother, William Stringfellow Wooldridge of Hoover.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandsons-in-law.

Brian Wilhite and Richard Shamblin and the other doctors and staff of Internal Medicine Associates, the staff of Hospice of West Alabama, and the officers of the Tuscaloosa Police Department.
