MCSHAN Steven "Mark" Junkins, 55, of McShan, Ala., died October 2, 2013 of heart failure.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm- 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Lowndes Funeral Home in Columbus, Miss. The service will be at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Vernon Church in Columbus, Miss.; with Bro. Josh Daffern officiating and Bro. Jordan Lloyd assisting followed by a private burial service at Mineral Springs Cemetery in McShan, Ala. with Lowndes Funeral Home directing.

Mark graduated from high school in 1976 from Pickens Academy. He received his Bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Mississippi State University in 1980. In 1981, Mark was commissioned into the US Navy through Officer Candidate School. He attended Navy dive school in Panama City Beach, Fla. and served on the USS Juneau and was active duty for 6 years. Mark transferred to the Navy Reserves, where he served 19 years before retiring in 2006 as a Captain (O-6). During this time, Mark was also employed at the McShan Lumber Company, where he worked for 27 years and served as the Vice President of Sales. He was known and respected worldwide in the lumber industry for his excellence.

Mark was an active member and elder at Mt. Vernon Church, where he taught and served Air Force student pilots and their families, and has served in various leadership and ministry roles through the years.

Mark was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Shepherd.

He is survived by wife, Phyllis Lyles Junkins; sons, Travis Lyles Junkins (Kelly Jo) of Colorado and John Mark Junkins (Emily) of Hawaii; parents, Clarence H. and Jeanette Junkins of Ethelsville, Ala.; brother, Jody Junkins (Nancy) of Georgia; and six nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dudley Reeves, Al Wise, Jason Barlow, Brian Reed, Tyler McShan, Hunter McShan, Grover Allgood and Pat Ogletree.

Honorary pallbearers will be employees of McShan Lumber Co. and associates in the lumber industry.
