BERRY Kathy Akin, age 50, of Berry, died Dec. 3, 2011, at home. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ezra Dunn Jr.
Survivors include her husband, James M. Akin; her daughters, Brandi Wilson (Chris) and Victoria Akin; her sons, Johnathan Graves (Lori) and James T. Akin J.T.; her sisters, Sharon Swindle (Leroy), Debbie Long (Eddie), and Teresa Hubbard; her mother, Bobbie Dunn; her grandchildren, Cody Graves, Tristen, Eli and Ezabella Graves, Nathan Graves, and Scarllett Akin.
Kathy graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School in 1980 then furthered her education at Shelton State Community College to pursue her dream of becoming an RN. She raised four wonderful children and taught them all the joys our lives can share. Kathy was diagnosed with cancer four years ago, and during the duration of the disease she was a shining example of how one can find the positives in their lives. She was a kind, loving and caring daughter, mother, wife, and friend to all around her. She will be deeply missed.
Pallbearers will be Johnathan Graves, Eugene Rice, Dustin Thomson, Jerry Lunchford, James T. Akin, Trey Collier, Jason Jamorski, and Corey Cooper.
Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Lunchford, Northport Health Service LLC, Hospice of West Alabama, N.H.S. staff and co workers, Oncology Department at UAB, Radiation Department at UAB, and all the wonderful doctors that helped along her way.
