Alice was a loving wife and mother, a caring friend and neighbor, and admirably courageous. She was born September 19, 1933 in Camden, NJ to Edward Holt and Lenora Rife Morris and earned a B.A. in French from Wilson College, Chambersburg, PA. Before graduation, she married the love of her life, Haines Lippincott Roberts, with whom she would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on June 12. Together they raised a family of four strong, accomplished children who have grown to be the best reflection of their parents' devotion and values.
Though her family always came first, Alice reached out to her world, earning a master's degree in guidance and counseling from the University of Alabama; serving as field director for the Tombigbee Girl Scout Council, Director of Christian Education at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Alabama, and chair of the Christian Education Committee for the North Alabama Presbytery. She lifted her beautiful voice in song as a founding member of the Tuscaloosa Community Singers and the Decatur Civic Chorus. Alice was a proud and active member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Tuscaloosa; the Daughters of the American Revolution; and PEO, Chapter N.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edward Rife Morris. She is survived by her husband, Haines Lippincott Roberts of Tuscaloosa; daughter Ruthie Roberts Sherrill (Russell) of Tuscaloosa; sons Edward "Ned" Earle Roberts (Rita) of Pensacola, Florida; John Haines Roberts (Carolanne) of Birmingham; and David Haines Roberts (Dorita) of Bakersfield, California; grandchildren Elizabeth Ashley Roberts (Matt) of Bakersfield, Fletcher Haines Griffith Roberts of Birmingham, and Abby Lee Roberts of Huntington Beach, California. She was the proud great-grandmother of Madynn and Wyatt Williams of Bakersfield. Alice's beloved shih tsu, Hope, a constant companion, will also miss her mistress in the days to come.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the United Way of West Alabama, 2720 6th St # 100, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401; or Covenant Presbyterian Church, 113 Hargrove Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35401.
