TUSCALOOSA | Rev. Dr. John A. (Jack) Rodgers, age 84, of Tuscaloosa, died July 12, 2014 at DCH Regional Medical Center. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Hopewell Baptist Church with Josh Howell officiating. Burial will follow in Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Margaret Rodgers; and his sister, Joyce Benford.
Survivors include his wife, Dawn M. Rodgers; daughter, Holly Shepherd (Mark); son, Carl Rodgers (Andrea) of Raleigh, N.C.; brother, James Rodgers (Holly) of Chambersburg, Pa.; and grandchild, J. Adam Shepherd.
Jack was born April 4, 1930 in Johnstown, Pa. While in high school he formed his own orchestra, The Moon Dusters. He was proficient at playing the saxophone, clarinet, piano and organ. He proudly served his country as a member of the Air Force. He graduated from Juniata College (Juniata, PA) in 1958 and from the Gettysburg Seminary (Gettysburg, PA) in 1961. He received an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from Theil College (Greenville, PA) in 1982. He served as Assistant to the Bishop of the W.VA.-Western PA Lutheran Synod from 1972-1988, and then became a faculty member of the Gettysburg Seminary until his retirement.
Jack will be remembered for his love of gardening, learning and his study of the word of God.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, 3800 University Blvd. East.
