GORDO James William McDaniel, age 84, of Gordo, died November 1, 2009, at Heritage Health Care Center. Services were held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at Gordo First Baptist Church with Rev. Pat Powell officiating. Burial followed in Gordo City Cemetery with full military honors and Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Connell McDaniel; son, James I. "Jimmy" McDaniel; infant son, Denny William McDaniel; brother, Robert Earl McDaniel; sister, Olivia McDaniel Elmore; and his parents.
Survivors include his grandson, Ethan McDaniel and wife, Jennifer Pennington McDaniel of Birmingham, Ala.
Mr. McDaniel was born February 12, 1925, in Carrollton, Alabama to the late Earlie M. McDaniel and Tera Estelle Windle McDaniel. He was a member at Gordo First Baptist Church for 71 years and had served as a deacon. James was the retired executive director for the Gordo Housing Authority, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a life long resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers were Dexter Hardy, Sonny Manning, Sammy Cobb, Sam Wiggins, Dale Lancaster, and Dan Singleton.
Honorary pallbearers were Brenda Hardy and his church family.
The family suggests any memorials be made to Gordo First Baptist Church New Building Fund, P.O. Box 323, Gordo, AL 35466.
