NEW BERN, N.C. Mary Frances Mullenix, wife of Gerald Herman Mullenix, entered into the loving arms of her Lord with dignity and grace Feb. 16, 2011.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born on the family farm outside Centreville, Ala., Mary Frances grew up enjoying fresh vegetables, farm animals that often became pets, and neighbors who found time to drop by for visits. After high school, Mary Frances attended Massey-Draughon Business School of Montgomery, where a classmate introduced her to her first husband, Thadeus Rose "Billy" Dunn, Jr. While in Montgomery, Mary Frances worked as an administrative assistant for Montgomery Bus Lines. During this time her first and only child, Rosemary, was born.
In 1959 she and her family moved to Selma, Alabama where Mary Frances took a job with a sewing factory. It was here that she took pride in earning lots of overproduction dollars because of her speed on the sewing machine. In 1969 her husband's job moved the family to Zachary, La., where for the first time she enjoyed being a full-time homemaker. In 1970 her husband's job moved the family again, this time to New Bern, N.C. where the family settled first on the river in James City and later relocated to Riverbend, where Mary Frances lived for 32 years. During this time her first husband, Billy, died of cancer, and on December 31, 1995, Mary Frances married Gerald "Jerry" H. Mullenix. In 2002 she and Jerry built a home for themselves on the river where Mary Frances once again lived on the James City side of town.
During her life Mary Frances enjoyed caring for her home and her family, playing bridge and Scrabble games, assisting her husband, Jerry, in building homes, teaching elementary Sunday School, and eating out.
Mary Frances is survived by one daughter, Rosemary Dunn Wilson, and her husband, John of New Bern, N.C.; one grandson, Neill U. Wilson and his wife, Heather of Virginia Beach, Va.; one granddaughter, Sarah M. Wilson of Newton Centre, Mass.; and two great-grandsons, Liam John and Easton James Wilson, both sons of Neill and Heather. Other surviving family members include sisters Marilyn Latham of Tuscaloosa and Nadine Fontenot of Alvin, Texas; and stepchildren, Judy Springer of Martinsburg, W.Va., Gerald Ivan Mullenix and Danny Mullenix, both of Hagerstown, Md., Kirk Mullenix of Greencastle, Pa., Lynn Mullenix of Falling Waters, W.Va., and their families.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by one brother, Donald Boggs; one sister, Eleanor Stephens; her first husband, Billy Dunn; and two stepdaughters, Brenda Stotlemyer and Shirley Mattioni.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel in New Bern. Burial will follow in Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight, Feb. 18, 2011, at the funeral home.
