ALEXANDER CITY Carl George Fitzhugh, age 51, of Alexander City, died March 23, 2011, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Memorial services were held 7 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at Radney Funeral Home Chapel with Randy Anderson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 2, 2011, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel. A committal service will follow at Fitzhugh Cemetery on Hwy. 43 with Kirk Funeral Homes Demopolis Chapel directing. Dr. Art Luckie will share memories of George during the visitation.

He was born Sept. 16, 1959, at Bryan W. Whitfield Hospital in Demopolis, Ala. to Ras Fitzhugh, Jr. and Irene Ruth Hooper Fitzhugh. Mr. Fitzhugh loved working and doing for others and was very kind-hearted. He was also a member of the Rolling Rock Hunting Club. Most of all, he was a loving grandfather and uncle.
He is survived by his daughters, Tina Marie Whiddon (Chris) of Dadeville and Michelle Koster (John) of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; grandchildren, Matthew Turner, Mark Turner, Pharbia Stroud (Kevin), and Walter Whiddon; mother, Irene Ruth Hooper Fitzhugh of Demopolis; sister, Carol Sorrells (Bill) of Demopolis; brother, Ras Fitzhugh, III (Debbie) of Demopolis; brothers-in-law, Dicky Blanks (Kathy) and Ray Blanks; niece, Brittany Sorrells; nephews, Corey Sorrells, Jonathan Fitzhugh, David Fitzhugh, and Todd Blanks; and mother-in-law, Ruth E. White.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Leigh Blanks Fitzhugh; his father, Ras Fitzhugh, Jr.; and his grandparents, Ras and Willie Maude Fitzhugh, Sr. and Richard and Nina E. Hooper.
