TUSCALOOSA Barbara H. Buchalter, age 83, of Tuscaloosa, died Oct. 14, 2012, at DCH Regional Medical Center. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. today at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Rabbi Steve Jacobs officiating and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Frieda Hytken, and her grandson, Luis Pernia.
Survivors include her husband, Aubrey E. Buchalter; her daughters, Kathie B. Carnes and Jennie Lichter; her sons, Scott Buchalter, William Buchalter, and Robert Buchalter; her sister, Edith Hytken; her grandsons, Blake Buchalter, Eric Buchalter, Josh Lichter, Jonathan Buchalter, Robbie Kravec, and Josh Kravec; and her granddaughters, Emma Buchalter, Lily Buchalter, Katie Brooke Carnes, Marianna Kaufman, Anna Lichter, Mollie Lichter, Elizabeth Unseth, and Caroline Buchalter.
Mrs. Buchalter was born Sept. 19, 1929, in Greenwood, Miss. She attended Agnes Scott College and the University of Alabama for her undergraduate studies. She subsequently earned her master's degree in Early Childhood Development at the University of Alabama. Barbara was a member of multiple service and civic organizations including the String Quartet Society of Tuscaloosa, the Tuscaloosa Study Club, the Consonant Supper Club, the National Alumni Association, the University of Alabama Home Economics Society, the Altrusa Club, the Study Club, and served on the leadership board for the University of Alabama College of Human Environmental Sciences. Barbara and Aubrey raised five children, and she remained a resident of Tuscaloosa until her death.
Pallbearers will be her six grandsons.
Honorary pallbearers are her eight granddaughters.
