GORDO Francis J. Pelletier, age 97, of Gordo, died Nov. 10, 2012, at home. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Mr. Pelletier was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Johnnie Ligon Pelletier.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary B. Beck (Richard) and Demetra B. Vail (Otice); his grandsons, Richard Beck Jr., Anthony Beck, Mike Skelton, Warren Vail, and Buren Bailey Jr.; his granddaughters, Tina Keener, Vanessa Carraway, Rhonda Hester, Stacie Norris, and Cheryl Farley; 23 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Pelletier served his country as a 23-year veteran of the U.S. Navy, earning several medals during World War II and the Korean War.

Retiring with the rank of Chief Quartermaster, Francis "Frank" Pelletier did volunteer work at the VA Hospital in Tuscaloosa and elsewhere. He was a faithful member and past president of Marlin Strickland Post #104 of the American Legion in Pickens County, Alabama. He was also a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.

During his long life, Mr. Pelletier's accomplishments were many. To his family he was a man respected for his wisdom and opinions. He was consulted about everything from the weather and the future to historical events. He was a man who played the game of life, knew all the plays, and called them as he saw them – his way! He will be missed, and his sea stories will be remembered forever by his family who knew him as their beloved "Paw Frank."

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons, Richard Beck Jr., Anthony Beck, Mike Skelton, Warren Vail, Stephen Hester, and Burton Beck.

Honorary pallbearers are members and past members of the Marlin Strickland American Legion Post and Auxiliary of Pickens County and loyal friend Mitch Magee.
