GORDO Edgar Marlin Burkhalter, age 93, of Gordo, died Nov. 13, 2012, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2012, at Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Kee officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to services at the church.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Stine Burkhalter, and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Blakney Burkhalter of Gordo, Ala.; his daughters, Bettie Crow (Gene) of Gordo, Ala., Charlotte Reynolds (Terry) of Trussville, Ala., and Debbie Kerr (Gwen) of Gordo, Ala.; his son, Boyd Burkhalter (Bettye) of Auburn, Ala.; his stepsons, Bobby Blakney (Kay), Tommy Blakney (Virgie), and John Blakney (Joni); his brothers, Raymond Burkhalter and Wilford Burkhalter, both of Northport; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Crowe, Jquan Wooten (Jeff), Byron Crowe (Mandy), Angie Henderson (Rick), April Blount (Jim), Emily Shaw (John), Jarret Reynolds (Amelia), Allison Lockhart (Joshua), Carrie Beth Kerr, and Grant Kerr; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mr. Burkhalter was born July 4, 1919, in Pickens County, Alabama to the late John N. Burkhalter and Emily Lutitia Latham Burkhalter. He was a deacon and the oldest living member of Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church, a retired feed mill manager for Hickman's Hatchery/Peco, and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Pallbearers will be Byron Crowe, Jarret Reynolds, Grant Kerr, Jeff Crowe, Jeff Wooten, and Rick Henderson.

Honorary pallbearers are employees of Peco, Jim Blount, all of his caregivers, Dr. John Summerford, the Fairview community, Hospice of West Alabama, and his Shiloh Church family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Shiloh Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 139 Blue Ridge Rd., Gordo, AL 35466.
