NEWTON Joe Lee Burchfield, age 79, a resident of Newton, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2012, at Flowers Hospital in Dothan following an extended illness. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with the Reverend Ron Wilson officiating and Glover Funeral Home of Dothan directing. The family will receive friends Monday, Nov. 19, 2012, from 1 to 1:45 p.m. at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home prior to the graveside services.

Mr. Burchfield was born on December 5, 1932, in Tuscaloosa, the son of the late Joseph Pegeus Burchfield II and Nell Manderson Burchfield. He attended high school at Marion Military Institute and graduated from Tuscaloosa High School in 1951, then attended the University of Alabama. Mr. Burchfield was retired as vice president with the First National Bank in Dothan after serving 20 years. He moved to Dothan from Birmingham in 1965.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Mike White of Newton; his daughter, Rachel Burchfield of Dothan; two brothers, Wilbur Manderson Burchfield (Pat) of Mobile and J.P. Burchfield III (Lou) of San Antonio, Texas; three grandchildren, Justin Boutwell (fiancée Tiffany Woodall) of Rehobeth, Joseph White (Stefanie) of New Orleans, La., and Stephanie White (fiancé Brandon Henderson) of Pansey; and four great-grandchildren.
