TUSCALOOSA Horace Claude Poole Sr., age 85, of Tuscaloosa, died March 13, 2013, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Corder officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Claude leaves his wife of 66 years, Sybil; a daughter, Connie Johnson (Dwight) of Huntsville; a son, Claude Poole Jr. of Tuscaloosa; four grandchildren, Jason Johnson of Huntsville, Erin Garcia of Pensacola, Fla., Lance Poole (Teresa) of Birmingham, and JC Poole (Kelly) of Atlanta, Ga.; and three great-grandchildren.
Claude attended Holt High School and was a member of the Class of 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy before the end of World War II and served in the Pacific. He was employed at Gulf States Paper for 29 years and retired from Diamond Shamrock. He later enjoyed working with the Keystaff at the University of Alabama. Claude was a member of the Alberta Baptist Church for 64 years. He was active with the men's softball team and was elected to the West Alabama Softball Hall of Fame in 2004.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alberta Baptist Church Building Fund, 3722 Palisades Drive Suite B, Tuscaloosa, AL 35405.
