It's so hard to believe a year has passed by so quickly, Cal. Thank you for being my friend, listening to me complain and sharing the humor that we found in our lives. You will always be in my thoughts Cal; rest in peace, my friend.

Delores and family, please accept my sincerest condolences of Cal's passing. I was fortunate to know him on a personal level and had worked alongside Cal as a fellow employee during his years in the shipping department of Bailey Nurseries. What can I say about Cal that you don't already know? To me, he was one of a rare breed. Never at a loss for words, and ALWAYS opinionated, Cal was... well, he was Cal. There were those that thought he was grouchy most of he time because of his gruff exterior, but because they believed they were much better off steering clear of him, they missed a opportunity to know a great man. As you all know, once you got past the tough exterior, Cal warmed up to you right away.
We kind of "clicked" right away; politics, religion, the economy, spouses, children, and grandchildren were some aspects of life that we agreed on. I realized that my demeanor was a lot like his; we spoke (somewhat) of the tradegy (and horrors) of war, of our own illnesses and mortality, and life in general, all in casual conversation. We were able to complain and express our outward anger in a productive way, somehow laughing like hell in the process to release the pressure that the spring rush created. I've learned a lot from my friend (especially that you can't fix stupid). My respect for Cal, along with my gratitude of his service to the country will always have a positive influence on me, and I will never forget his perspective on living life.
Cal, remember the rules in Gods Country are to fish, not to work. You don't want to tick off the "big guy" up there (at least not until he gets used to you anyway).
