I have so many fond memories of Orv throughout the years. He was the cornerstone of the obedience community in the Twin City area. He was a born dog trainer. For as long as I can remember, he has been helping either "green" handlers or "green" dogs through their problems. And kept helping them when they were no longer "green". He was a quiet champion and won with grace and style. If anyone needs an example of how to treat people and dogs they could find no better example than Orv. For as long as I utter or hear the words "gloves 1, 2, and 3" I will hear Orv saying it and pointing to the gloves as he did so many times for me in run thrus. Orv you were a big part of the obedience family and will always be remembered with kindness and love.
There must be quite the obedience trial going on in heaven with Orv's arrival.

I met Orville through our Pet Therapy program (Project Veteran). My associate-Judy and I met with him monthly for quite some time. We were saddened to have missed him just yesterday when we were there. He was such a kind person. We will miss him and his dear smile.

Orv (and his good friend Phyllis too) taught me a lot. Lots of kindness and knowledge freely shared. ...From Clancy and Leen running after training dummies behind the old BOTC over 45 years ago (and me wondering what in the world "Charge" meant, and explaining all those whistle blasts), and the joy of still seeing you at trials in your senior years with Rhett and RT, taking time to talk about things, and ALWAYS caring enough to ask how my Mom was doing. You will be greatly missed. The whole obedience community will have a hole in their hearts for a while.

To Orv's remaining family: I was saddened to hear of Orv's passing today.
I am from Thunder Bay, ON. Canada & often Orv & his shelties would always come up & trial here. They were a delight to watch & Orv was one very special person, I had him over to our place for suppers when he would come here & I remember being in Winnipeg one year, competing in Obedience with my Doberman Row Z ~ Orv kept beating me all the time & I would laugh & say: Orv you have to go home, I was always riding his coat tails ~ they worked so effortlessly & they just do not make ORV'S anymore.
This weekend there are shows/trials here in Thunder Bay so we are getting a cake to SALUTE/REMEMBER ORV at the Obedience trials. On the cake it will say: ORV, YOU WERE EVERYONE'S MENTOR & FRIEND. Several here from US trialing will remember Orv and he is always going to be in my heart as a most memorable & generous person. I often would ask about Orv, and I am so saddened to hear he is no longer with us. Bet he's already up there training some of our 'canines' at the rainbow bridge. Please know he was very much loved by all of the people here in Thunder Bay ~ God Bless ~ Orv you were one in a million.

Orville and his Irish Water Spaniel Leen were awarded, in 2005, a much deserved and long overdue honorary working certificate from the IWSCA in recognition of their paving the way for Irish water spaniels to run in hunting tests. I was privileged to know him.

Orv was the nicest person you could have ever known. He loved working with all his dogs. He was always willing to help you with training problems. The obedience world has lost another great person.

Orv was such a wonderful, kind and quiet man. I only knew him from dog obedience competition many years ago, but he was someone you would never forget. What a wonderful person he was.

Orv was the smartest and kindest dog trainer ever; plus that he was a first class person and friend. The world would be better with more people like my friend Orv.
