Beloved Mother, Grandmother Great Grandmother & Sister Age 89, passed away peacefully and gracefully on Nov. 14, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the eldest of nine siblings and grew up on St. Paul's East Side. She met her love, Peter Stumpf, at the legal office where she worked. According to Peter, their eyes met across Helen's desk, and he "knew she was mine." They married on May 4, 1946, and had nine children. Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Peter; her son, Peter; her parents, Francis and Fides Berchem; brother, Francis; sister, Joan. Helen was a long-time employee of the City of St. Paul and parishioner at Maternity of Mary Catholic Church in St. Paul. Helen was a strong woman and remarkable force who raised nine children and lived to love her grandchildren and great grandchildren - who knew her as the tender, beautiful grandma that she was. The family would like to express special thanks to the loving caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living, Johanna Shores and Carondelet Village. Memorials can be made in her honor to Sisters of St. Joseph Ministries Foundation. Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Tuesday, Nov. 20 at MATERNITY OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1414 N. Dale St, St. Paul.
