LONGLET, Donald M.
Age 69, of Bloomington passed peacefully into the loving arms of God on December 11, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Marion. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Margaret, as well as son Benjamin (Julie), daughter Elizabeth (Joshua) Johnston, grandchildren Kate, Owen, Hattie, Nella, Britta and Annaliese Johnston, brothers Richard (Linda) and Thomas (Linda), numerous nieces and nephews and many dear friends. A graduate of North St. Paul high school and the University of Minnesota, Don served his country for 6 years in the Minnesota Air National Guard. In 1968, he began a successful 45-year career in the investment management business. He started out working in the trust department at Northwestern National Bank in Minneapolis. Over the next 30 years, he rose through the ranks of the Minnesota investment management community, holding key positions at St. Paul Advisers/AMEV/Fortis and Jundt Associates. In 1999, he co-founded the investment firm Next Century Growth, where he worked until his recent retirement. Don earned widespread respect from investment managers around the country for his strategic thinking, love of competition and relentless search for the next big idea. Work, however, always took a back seat to Don's principal passions, faith and family. Don was a devoted husband, proud father, adoring grandfather and humble servant of God. His love for Margaret was boundless. He was enormously generous toward family, friends and strangers alike. He was an avid golfer, voracious reader and scotch aficionado. He loved cars and airplanes, the latter inspired by his father, a member of the Minnesota Aviation Hall of Fame. His sense of humor was legendary. In short, Don's was a life very well lived. He enriched the lives of countless others. Now he resides with his God and creator, for all eternity. Visitation 5-7pm Wednesday December 17th at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel, West 50th St. and Vernon Ave at Hwy 100.
