Dr. Bernard SCHULTE

July 12, 1915 May 18, 2013 Dr. Bernard William Schulte died May 18, 2013 at the age of 97.85 years. Dad, you almost made it to 100! Bernard was born on July 12, 1915 in Greenwald, Minnesota to a farming family of 10 children. Growing up in the depression, he developed an incredible work ethic, a "can do" attitude, and an entrepreneurial spirit. He worked his way through college and dental school and served on a Navy medical ship during World War II. In 1943, he married his love, Collette Maas, and together they had 3 children. After Collette's early death in 1955 from cancer, Bernard was lucky enough to marry her sister, Dolores who, with her daughter, joined the Schulte family. Bernard practiced dentistry in Minneapolis until his retirement at age 68. He and Dolores had 39 wonderful years together, playing golf with a great group of friends. After her death in 1995, he continued as a bachelor for another 18 years, golfing until he couldn't see the ball anymore! Dad was one of a kind, the best ever. Even at the end, when things became so difficult, Dad did not complain. Complaining wasn't in him. He was a family man, a man of strength, endless patience, integrity, faithfulness, love and faith in God. We have been amazingly blessed to have him as a father and know we will see him again one day. He is survived by his four children: Kay Beairsto and husband Richard, Herb Schulte and wife Julie, Mary Sue Schulte, and Martha Vitalari and husband Nick, as well as 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Private funeral services were held at St. Dominic's Church in Northfield, Minnesota on May 22. A memorial gathering will be planned in late July.
