Fern Louise (Sewall) FRANZEN

Beloved Mother, Grandmother & Great Grandmother ~ Age 99 of Woodbury Passed away peacefully on May 13, 2013. Fern was born on a farm near Lake Minnetonka and was a graduate of St. Louis Park High School and St. Barnabas Hospital School of Nursing. She became a registered nurse at St. Barnabas and married Roy Franzen in 1941. They built a home together in St. Louis Park and then moved to Rapid City and Sioux Falls, SD, returning to Minnesota in 1962. They were long time residents of Golden Valley and early members of Calvary Lutheran Church of Golden Valley. Following Roy's death in 1999, Fern moved to Calvary Cooperative Apartments and later to Woodbury Estates Assisted Living. Fern loved hosting family gatherings and keeping busy around the house. She was an excellent cook - her roast turkey dinners were historic. She was an avid gardener and did embroidery, crochet and crafts when she couldn't get outdoors. She was active in school volunteering, church groups and garden clubs and enjoyed traveling with Roy upon his retirement. Preceded in death by husband, Roy; parents, Charles and Ellen Sewall; sister, Kathryn Hendrickson; and brothers, Clint, Willis and Loren Sewall. Survived by son, Douglas (Linda); daughter, Kay Jamieson (Peter); grandson, Chad Franzen; granddaughter, Jennifer Kugel (William); great grandchildren, Max and Leah Kugel; sister-in-law, Ellie Sewall and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank and is grateful for the outstanding care provided by Woodbury Estates Assisted Living and Allina Hospice. Family interment at Lakewood Cemetery.
