Born September 5th, 1919 Passed away on November 23rd, 2013 Age 94 - Herman was a lifelong resident of West St. Paul. He served in the Navy during WWII on the USS Briscoe in the Pacific. He was a Construction Supt. for Geo. J. Grant Const. Co. for 31 years and Shop Supervisor at KSTP-TV 1977-1986. Herm was a steady and patient man - a man of many talents. He loved playing his accordion daily from childhood until age 91. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and was a skilled builder. He built his two homes, furniture and many projects. Herm shared both his musical talent and building skills with many friends and relatives. He will be missed by those who loved him. Preceded in death by wife, Mildred (Heuer); parents, James W. Cherney and Johanna (Neubauer); stepmother, Susan (Riedel); 11 siblings; 5 step-siblings; and infant son. Survived by daughter, Ramona (Michael) Hopper; son, Donald (Sharon); 4 grandchildren; and 4 (soon to be 6) great-grandchildren. Also survived by devoted friend of 10 years, Beverly Renken. He was an active member of St. James Lutheran Church in West St. Paul since 1946. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church. Funeral Service will be held at St. James Lutheran Church (460 W. Annapolis St., WSP) on Saturday, November 30th, at 11AM. Visitation one hour prior to service at church.
