Left this world peacefully on Monday December 17, 2012 ~ Age 87 Leo was born March 5, 1925, in Pierz, Minnesota to Polish immigrant parents, the seventh of eight children. After leaving the family farm, he served in World War II in the Merchant Marines delivering supplies throughout the South Pacific. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy at the end of the war. He returned to Minnesota, moved to St. Paul, married and began raising his family. He worked for US Structural Steel until they closed and spent the next several years as a handyman. Leo and Millie spent many years dancing around the country making fast friends as members of the Polka Lovers Klub of America (PoLKA.) Leo loved tinkering in his workshop, always willing to help anyone with whatever projects they were working on. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades (and master of most!), and family and friends have always appreciated his wisdom and abilities. Never needing an excuse other than "How about some music?", Leo was quick to grab his favorite concertina and provide hours of entertainment. Surely his siblings are glad to have him home, playing his part. Leo is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Josephine Piasecki, and siblings, Casimir, Stanley, Frances, Walter, Helen, Stephanie, and Julius. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Millie, children Mona Shafer, Ken (Bobbi) and Mark (Carol), grandchildren Jennifer (Antron) Adams, Alexandra, Anthony and Samantha Piasecki, and great-granddaughters Tronisha Shafer and Caringtin Adams. A celebration of Leo's life is planned for Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota. Visitation from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Service at 12:00 noon. Private Interment.
