Mary (Schiltgen) WERNER

Age 90 Of West St. Paul Mary Schiltgen Werner, 90, died on December 13, 2012. She was born January 17, 1922 in Hastings. She attended boarding school at Hampton's St. Mathias and graduated from Rosemount High School before attending Globe Business College. She married Raphael "Ralph" Werner on August 23, 1943 in Harrisburg, Penn., two days before he left for World War II. Mary worked at Fort Snelling, writing Ralph nightly. After Ralph suffered wounds at the Battle of the Bulge, Mary moved to Tacoma, Wash., where Ralph recuperated, and she worked for the U.S. Navy. Post-war she and Ralph returned here, owning and operating Ralph's Grocery in W. St. Paul for many years. After Ralph's death in 1982, Mary returned to work at the U.S. Department of Immigration until retirement. Mary lived fully, treasuring her family, friends, faith and traveling worldwide. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Mary (Kelly) Schiltgen, and her brother Joseph (JoJo). She is survived by her sons Joseph (Nancy) Werner, John Werner, and daughter Mary Beth (Eric) Schubert; grandchildren John Werner, Tom Werner and Charles Schubert; and her sister Eileen Molitor. Visitation, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, at Guardian Angels Church, 8260 Hudson Blvd in Oakdale. Mass of Christian Burial to be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Church, 1154 Seminole Ave., W. St Paul with 1 hr visitation prior to the mass at Church. Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Joseph's Church. 651-457-6200
