Michael James HEALEY

Michael James Healey died peacefully on December 23, 2012 at the Minnesota Veterans Home after a long and courageous battle with Lewy Body dementia. He was surrounded by his family and close friends. Michael is survived by his wife, Judith Koll Healey, and his sons and their families: Sean (Kim), Paul (Becky Dankowski), Michael Brian (Karina Milosovich) and Colin (Rosa Sala-Healey). He is also survived by grandchildren Cole, Finn, Sofia, Francis, Eva, Beatrice, Harriet, Anna and Lucy, sisters Joan Witry and Judy (Lou) Gibbons and brother Lawrence Healey, as well as many nieces and nephews. Michael was born on June 29, 1937, in Minneapolis to Lola Gronlund Healey and Lawrence William Healey. He graduated from De la Salle High School, the University of Minnesota and the William Mitchell College of Law. He practiced law in St. Paul, Minnesota, for thirty-five years, and served on the Minnesota Lawyers Board of Professional Responsibility and the Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services board of directors. Michael loved travel, music, sailing and ice cream. He was proud of his sons and their families, and of his thirty years of sobriety. In his retirement he became a committed environmentalist and he hoped for and worked for a better world. The family wants to thank all the staff at the Minnesota Veterans Home for their support and care for Michael over the past three years, especially Dawn and Sandra who were his regular caregivers. Thanks also the St. Croix Hospice nurses, especially Jackie and Charissa, for their help and kindness in the last two weeks of his life. A celebration of Mike's life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on January 15th at the Landmark Center where he first practiced law when it was the Federal Courthouse in St. Paul. Program at 5 p.m. Memorials to Greenpeace, Sierra Club or any other environmental organization.
