They were married Sept. 15, 1942 in Sioux Falls, SD, following Carl's graduation from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul. After living in Philadelphia, PA for a year, the couple moved to Chicago, IL, to pastor the Elim Baptist Church. In 1953 they moved to St. Paul, MN where Carl became president of Bethel College and Seminary. Nancy was an active pastor's wife and later president's wife. She was known for her hospitality, cheerful personality, and concern for the welfare of others. She had a lovely soprano voice and often sang for special occasions. She and Carl traveled to many places, from big cities to remote jungle sites, to visit Bethel alumni, missionaries and other friends over the years. Because of their interest in the life of devotion they visited more than 40 spiritual retreat centers around the world. Out of that came the establishment of their own retreat ministry which they called the Evangelical Order of the Burning Heart. In her elder years she devoted herself to daily prayer for the concerns of family and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; two sons-in-laws, James B. Anderson and James Spickelmier; her parents, Thomas and Nancy Zimmerman; brother, Harold and sister, Lona Loine Dobesh.
