Paul Kehne "Buzz" SCHILLING

Longtime resident of Scottsdale, AZ formerly of St. Paul passed away on November 20, 2012. Retired CEO of Plastics, Inc. (a subsidiary of Newell Rubbermaid), he was an engineer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist; a decorated World War II veteran; a graduate of the Saint Paul Academy (1941) and MIT (1947). Mr. Schilling was also on the board of the First Trust Co (now US Bank), Anchor Hocking Corp., a trustee of Children's Hospital, United Hospital of St. Paul, the United Theological Seminary, a supporter and past president of the United Way; and an active member of Desert Hills Presbyterian Church in Scottsdale and Macalester Plymouth Presbyterian Church in St. Paul. In Arizona he was instrumental in the development of the town of Carefree and Desert Mountain, a founding member of the Foothills Community Foundation, an active member of Kiwanis, and a supporter of the Desert Foothills Library, the Cave Creek YMCA and the Heard Museum. Buzz was also a member of the Society of Plastic Industries and Engineers, Young Presidents Association, and the World Business Council. Born December 20, 1922 in St. Paul, Minnesota, the eldest son of Paul A. and Ruth Kehne Schilling. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Lewis Schilling, of Scottsdale, AZ; four children: Paul and Marcia Schilling of Anchorage, AK; Ruth Schilling Harwood and Lewis Harwood of Bethesda, MD; Ann and Dr. Fergus McKiernan of Marshfield, WI; Lisa S. Greenman and Bruce Arlen of Cave Creek, AZ; nine grandchildren and one great granddaughter. His brother, Hugh K Schilling of Fountain Hills, AZ, also survives him. His sister, Jean Schilling Folberth Chockley Ricketts of Naples, FL preceded him in death on November 1, 2012. A memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday December 22, at Desert Hills Presbyterian Church, 34605 N Tom Darlington Drive, Scottsdale, AZ 85262. A service in Minnesota is also planned for early June 2013.
