BERTRAM Richard Franke Age 78, of Thompson Falls, MT Formerly of White Bear Lake, MN Passed into Glory on November 17, 2012. Dick was born in India to parents Walter and Emilie (Franke) Bertram who were missionaries with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. He remained true to the LCMS faith his entire life holding various positions of service in the church. He spent his early years in India then traveled to the United States by ship to attend boarding school with his brothers Edward and John at Concordia in Fort Wayne, IN. In high school Dick excelled due to his brilliant mind and was a star on the tennis courts. After graduating from Concordia High School he joined the United States Navy
and was stationed in Key West, FL, serving in the blimp corps. He also served his country proudly for many years in the Reserves as a radio operator on P2V aircraft. He attended the University of MN then went to work for the alarm company Electro Watchman, Inc. He met and married Marjorie Vadnis and through that union had 6 children. Dick worked for Electro Watchman Inc, for 40 years becoming CEO and co-owner with his then wife, Marjorie. The family had a cabin "up north" in MN where they spent many happy days together hunting, fishing, 4 wheeling and enjoying nature. He had an eagle eye and was an excellent hunter. Deer camp was a big deal for Dick, his brothers and friends. In 1991 he met and later married the love of his life, Judith, and made her every dream come true. After his retirement in 1997 they enjoyed traveling and spent their winters on South Padre Island, TX and the rest of the year in the beautiful north woods of MN. Due to health challenges in 2007 they moved west to Montana and took up residence on Cougar Mountain Ranch to be close to family. He spent the rest of his days enjoying the beauty of the Rocky Mountain Northwest. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Emilie, sister Grace and step-son Albert. He is survived by his beloved wife Judith, sons; Robert (Christine), Brian (Joan), Steven and daughters: Barbara (Mike) Bowes, Carol (Edward) Gerlach, and Grace (Curtis) Back, Step-sons: Seth Alexander, Adam (Chong) Alexander, Nick (Cassandra) Kersting and step-daughters; Judith Alexander and Evelyn (Glenn) Schenavar, 27 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and brothers; John (Gloria), Edward (Marilyn), Art, Allen, Bruce (Maryanne) and sisters; Karen Reek and Brenda (Chuck) Fredlund, numerous nieces, nephews and a plethora of friends. Please join us to celebrate his life at the memorial service held on Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at South Shore Trinity Lutheran Church, 2480 South Shore Blvd., White Bear Lake, Minn. Visitation begins one hour prior to the service, with a meal following the service in the fellowship hall. WE WILL MISS YOU TRUE AND HUMBLE SERVANT!
