Veronica A. (Zaremba) FRANTZ

Age 98 of Roseville (formerly Falcon Heights) died on November 23, 2013. Vee was born of hard-working Lithuanian immigrants in Enfield, Conn. in 1915. She recalled stuffing newspaper into the toes of the pair of skates shared by her family as they found their way through the Great Depression. Always generous and helpful to those around her, she became an out-standing head nurse at Springfield Hospital in Springfield, Mass., where she ran a tight ship and also served as a crack surgical scrub nurse. There she met and married the late Dr. Ivan D. Frantz, Jr. and in Boston gave birth to their first of five boys, Ivan III, while Ivan Jr. was serving in the Navy during World War II. Her youngest brother Charles was lost in the war - a source of great anguish - but her indomitable spirit carried her forward. Vee was an excellent cook, tireless in looking after her boys, and very proud of them. She showed genuine interest in the lives of everyone she met, and in typical fashion came to know well, and to be well loved by, the excellent staff of Sunrise Senior Living in Roseville, where she spent her final years. Over the many years of raising her family in Falcon Heights, she was actively engaged in charitable work for Children's Home Society and in organizing volunteers for the University of Minnesota Faculty Women's scholarship fund. She often volunteered at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, which she faithfully attended for many years. Vee was preceded in death by: Her husband Ivan Jr. and her brothers Charles and Joseph Zaremba (Dorothy) of Springfield, Mass. Loving mother of five sons, Ivan III (Barbara) of Hingham, Mass., Charles Joseph of Roseville, Minn., Donald (Barbara) of Taylors Falls , Minn., Karl (Judith) of Madison, Wis. and Robert (Janell) of Rochester Minn. She was the grand-mother of eleven and great-grandmother of five. Her smiling face will be greatly missed, and we will think of her fondly as we endeavor to embody her spirit of love and kindness. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday January 12, 2014 at THE ROSEVILLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL 2245 N.
