Vincent Francis BASTIAN(1919 - 2014)

born May 23, 1919 in St. Paul died February 4 in Hermantown He began active service in the Navy in May 1941 and served during the entire Second World War as a naval navigator. Vince was a licensed professional mechanical engineer. He earned his license by studying for the certification tests at night on his own, despite attending just one year of college. Vince loved the outdoors and enjoyed summer vacations at lake cabins in Northern Minnesota, fishing and swimming with his family. He also loved to work with his hands and he could install a new furnace as well as he could sew a torn leather mitten. Vince was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his daughter Barbara, his mother Marie and his father Frank. He is survived by his sister Phyllis and his children Mary, Michael (Jane), John (Patty), nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Vince spent his final three years living in Hermantown under the watchful eye and tender care of John and Patty. May he rest in peace. A memorial service will be held for Vince at Calvary Cemetery in St. Paul on June 13 at 2 pm.
