William A. CHERVENAK M.D.

Age 83, of Vadnais Heights Died May 12, 2013 Born in Portage, PA on June 7, 1929. He served in the Navy for 2 years during World War II and attended the University of Notre Dame on the GI Bill. He was introduced to the lakes, streams and woods of Minnesota while a counselor at Camp Foley during his college years. Bill graduated from George Washington Medical School in 1955. He performed his residency as an Army officer and enjoyed practicing medicine in rural Minnesota and in the hospitals of Alaska where he finished his career. An excellent diagnostician, tens of thousands of patients benefited from his knowledge of medicine during his 40-year practice. Known as a great outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter he acquired numerous parcels of land in northern Minnesota and built a hunting camp used by dozens of friends and relatives for over four decades. He liked communicating with people from all walks of life and ran Bill's Clipping Service for his friends and family. Wonderful husband, dad, grandpa, "U.B." and brother. Friend to countless others and mentor too many. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Survived by his beloved wife Jojo, his four children, Nonnie (Bob Ribeiro), Paul (Angie), Mimi (Mark) Steffens, Neysa (Dragos) Alecu, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also survived by Jojo's children, Paddy (Susan) McNeely, Shawn McNeely, Shannon (Steve) Whittaker, Cara (Ted Madden), Irene (Steve Rayne), Trina (Garth Morrisette), and fourteen grandchildren. Survived by treasured younger brother, James Chervenak and his wife Connie, seven nephews, one niece and many friends. Preceded in death by his two older brothers and his dear sister Marci Nelson. Private family interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. The family will welcome guests from 4:00-7:00 pm on Sunday, June 9th at the Vadnais Heights Commons, 655 East County Road F, Vadnais Heights.
