I have the privilege of saying I am Lance's aunt. He will be greatly missed and touched everyone's lives with his kind spirit. Lance had a sweet smile that everyone loved. He was genuine and showed true compassion for others. He inspired us all with his honesty and desire for adventure. He was highly intelligent, hard working and so driven to know more. We could all learn from Lance in the way he always saw the good in others and was willing to unconditionally love...I have never known anyone like this and the world is a lessor place without Lance.

To the family of Lance L. Lieder,

I am in tears right now, as I just found out about the passing of Lance. I had Business Law with Lance last semester and we always sat by each other. He helped me out with notes when I was gone and always provided a friendly smile or insightful conversation. There is no doubt in my mind that Lance is now an angel with God. He was an amazing person and brought a lot to those around him. I could always tell he had such a kind heart, just a really good person. I will never forget Lance, and I take peace in knowing he is with us now and that soon we will all be able to reuinte with him in the Kingdom.

My dearest sympathies, your family will remain in my heart and prayers for the rest of my living days. You guys did a great job. Know he was loved even by those who barely knew him. May you all find peace in this someday.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I met Lance only once, at the 2011 outstanding student award ceremony. He seemed like such a sweet and bright young kid. A true tragedy. Know that this is how I will remember him... Smiling, sweet, and just a little bashful. May you find peace.

Lance, my knight in shining armor. I love you so much. There were so many times for us to meet and to have known each other longer. We went to high school, road the same bus and you were friends with my older brother. We even worked together at cub. You were very smart, a gentlemen, and a great person to be with. I wish our time together wasn't so short because there is so much that we still needed to do, together. You were a great boyfriend and I will never forget you. You are a love that is burned into my heart and I am deeply sad you can't be with me anymore. I know you are with god and his angels watching over us. Please keep me safe and look after me until my time comes to be with you in heaven. I will always love you, Lance Lewis Lieder, never forget me.

I had the great fortune of having Lance in my physical geography class fall 2010. He took class concepts and produced deep and thoughtful work with the material that is quite rare. I gained insights from his work that I had never thought of before in all my years of teaching. One of my colleagues who also had Lance in a class and I both immediately thought of him when asked to nominate an outstanding geography student last year. He was always attentive, polite, and helpful in class. And just a super nice guy! My best wishes go out to Lance's family. This is such a huge and sad loss.

I had the pleasure to work with Lance for the last three years at Cub. I had not spoken to him since switching to overnights but Lance was always a happy kid and he was the type of person who would do anything for a friend. I remember his frequent attempts to rap and make up gang signs to represent Cub Foods, Maplewood West. Lance, I hope you have found peace in your journey. Cub won't be the same but I am sure you will watch over us.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this incredibly sad and difficult time. I was one of the many drivers diverted to an alternate route; I knew immediately the circumstances were very serious. By the time I reached 120 and 694, the freeway had opened for west-bound traffic. Upon entering 694, I believe I passed Lance's car on the shoulder. When I learned of his death, I knew I would always remember that moment. May you find peace and strength in your grief as family and strangers alike offer you comfort. God bless you and Lance!
