Jennifer HAIGH Obituary

"She made broken look beautiful, strong look invincible She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings" Jenny passed away peacefully at home on Saturday April 14 after a nine year struggle with chordoma. She was 45 years old. Jenny was a 1991 graduate of CDH where she was a three sport athlete, and will become a 2018 inductee into the first CDH Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a 1996 Graduate of UW Madison where she captained the women's soccer team and was named to the All Big Ten Academic Team. After college Jenny played professional soccer in Sweden. She then became an assistant women's soccer coach at Arizona State U. for three seasons, followed by U of Misssouri, Columbia. She was named head coach at Northwestern University in 2000 becoming the youngest division one coach in the country. A diagnosis of chordoma in 2009 changed her life in many ways but it never dampened her spirit. Her family life was her heart and chordoma never had the power to quash that. Jenny's strength and purpose sustained her life. She was a consummate wife, mother, and homemaker. Her garden reflected her creativity and eye for beauty. Jenny loved cooking, decorating, and flower arranging, and actively engaged in her children's activities. She was happiest at the cabin at Big Sandy Lake where she built the evening fire, took long walks, played board games, and drove the boat (with her feet when her hands and arm no longer co-operated.) She embraced her many friends, welcomed new acquaintances, listened, heard and spoke honestly. She danced with abandon, laughed till she was breathless, and music stirred her soul. She worked hard, played harder. Jenny was inclusive and kind. As her disease progressed she learned quickly to adapt to the ever changing physical landscape. Her spirit grace courage kindness and tenacity inspired all who knew her. Jenny was preceded in death by her grandparents Helen and Jerry Haigh and Ray and Carmel Lindau. She is survived by her loving wife Aileen Guiney, son Billy Cantor and daughter Tallulah, her parents; Richard Haigh and Patty Haigh, her in laws Rick Guiney and Dee Guiney, brother Steve, his daughters Josie and Maggie, sister Angie (Brian Goranson) and their sons Adam, Joe and Louie. She is also is survived by a "deep bench" of friends and relatives who grieve the loss of such a beautiful light. Visitation 4-8 pm TOMORROW Thursday, April 19 at O'HALLORAN & MURPHY, 575 S. Snelling Ave., St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial 10 am Friday, April 20 at LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2055 Bohland Ave., St. Paul. Memorials preferred to Team Jenny at Anchor Bank 1570 Concordia Ave. Snelling St. Paul 55104 for her children's education. 651-698-0796

Dear Angie and the Haigh Family, My deepest condolences go out to you. I know that there Jennifer reached the hearts of many. I remember playing softball with Angie and looking up to her "big sister" Jennifer when I was a freshman trying out for the high school soccer team. I watched her excel and followed her career while I worked as a copy editor at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram in their sports department. May God heal the pain that your hearts may feel and know that she is now resting and at peace. Sincerely,

Jennifer Stage

Patty and Dick...my deepest condolences at your loss of Jenni. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Jenni, I've heard she was very loving, caring, fun to be around and an accomplished athlete. I certainly understand why she possessed these outstanding attributes. I've been fortunate enough to call you two friends for the last 70+ years and it's obvious she received those gifts from mom and dad. You're in my prayers.
God Bless
