I just learned of Sen. Vega's passing through the Memorials for the Lupus Foundation of Minnesota. I worked on his initial campaign for Senate and was very impressed with his energy, intellect and genuine caring for the constituents. It was an honor to know him. Carol Ann Crater

Please accept my deepest condolences. My brothers and sisters and I all had your Dad for Spanish Classes at Lakeville High School. He was a great teacher that smiled alot and one that I remember after all these years. He made taking language classes in college a breeze after high school. Dear Vega family:
I offer my condolences to your family on the death of Conrado( Coke, as we affectionately called him in our early days.) I saw Coke maybe a couple of years ago at Inver Wood hitting golf balls and we talked about the gratitude we both had for living our life when we did. Both of us were so fortunate to grow up in a town like South St. Paul, to go to St Thomas for college and to pursue our goals in life. Coke was always on the other side from me, even in our car pool to St. Thomas, but I always loved Coke's persistence and determination . Maybe what I really liked was his big smile and warm greeting. Of course, the Vega family I knew were all friendly and gregarious. Coke was a good man and I am pleased to have been a friend of his.

Your father and his entire family held a special place in my parents heart and home. I have fond memories of shared meals, shared laughter and a history of our families touching each other's lives over the years. I last saw Coke at my fathers funeral at Fort Snelling, he came to share our loss. Please know we send our condolences and love.

To the Family of Conrad Vega --
I was a colleague of his in the Minnesota Senate, and remember him well. As I'm sure you know, he was the first Latino to be elected to the Minnesota Senate. He was an excellent public servant, and I was saddened to hear of his death. I saw him last when I interviewed him for my biography of our late Majority Leader, Nick Coleman.
