Mark and family, I've had 3M on my mind a lot lately connected to COVID-19 and 3M masks. Before I knew Neil I was a tech in the pilot plant making blown microfibers. We experimented with adding carbon black and a white powder I no longer remember the name of. My wife took the project to Aberdeen, SD where she computerized what we had done as techs. We've done some good things as employees there. Fond memories of Neil's work in our meetings and on the phone. Reading the posts here again I see Pete knew Neil. I didn't know him in 2014. A new connection to your family.

Dear Gallagher Family. You have my sincere condolences on the passing of your father Neil. From the stories I heard at his funeral and those written elsewhere on here it sounds as if he lived a long and wonderful life. I remember him well from my youth when I ran with the Anderson boys who lived next door to your family home on geranium; more than once did your dad have to give us his “adult advice” about our behavior, sometimes in his calm manner, other times not so much. I also remember him from his association with the Boy Scout troop 44 and explorers at St. Casimir's Church. Memories fade with the years but I believe he may have been up to Tomahawk scout camp to help with one of the wildest bunch of kids up there. It was nice seeing your family again and remembering some of those stories from long ago (Johnny has a good memory). Your father was a wonderful man who raised a wonderful family. Best wishes from my mother Rita as well.

Mark, and all who knew Neal. I planned to come last night out of respect for Mark and his family. After reading Neal's obituary I realized he was one of three lab guys we in inside sales called on to help our customers with any problems they were having with our pressure sensitive label products. Neal was one of the nicest folks I've worked with. I wish I had known him outside of work as well. I'm glad you have a wealth of happy memories. Thanks for sharing him for 17 of my years at 3M.

I will always remember Neal's wonderful laugh and how willing he was to offer help or advice on a project or an attempt at catching the elusive walleyes at Sand Lake. He had a genuine interest in you and such a kind tone in his voice. I loved when he would tell a story. He is irreplaceable but his 90 years on this earth will reverberate for a long, long time. My deepest sympathy to all of Neal's loved ones.

Dear Gallagher Family,
I spent many hours with Neal during our time at 3M. These were hours at the factory and at the lab. Neal was very intelligent and served his products and customers well. It was my pleasure to work with and be his friend. Earl Carlson

One of my very first memories of Mr. Gallagher was back when I was about four years old at Sand lake. We were over at the ball field and I went up and hugged his leg thinking he was my dad, and then I realized that it was not my dad. I was embarrassed but he just smiled and patted me on the head and said hi, making me feel not quite so stupid. My last memory of him was getting to help him celebrate his 90th birthday last summer at the cabin. It has been an honor knowing him. He was a wonderful man and my thoughts and prayers go out to the whole Gallagher family.

Several years ago, Dick LaVigne and I had the privilege of spending several hours with Neal. We met at Baker's Square and over coffee, he answered our questions and told us stories of our parents. My Dad, Mike O'Boyle, died when I was 19, so much of the family history on the O'Boyle / Gallagher side is unknown. Neal told us about his memories of my Dad visiting on the Ford farm near Plainview. He also drove us around East St. Paul and we saw the house that Dick lived in as a youngster. It was great to spend that time with him. My sympathy to all.

To those of us who were his neighbors both on Sand Lake and on the East Side he was reverently known as "The Inspector".Any prolonged use of a power tool would generate Neal in the flesh who would flick the ashes off of his cigarette and ask, "what you got going on here"? I am confident His presence will be long be remembered by many of us.

Dear Aunt Phyllis and cousins, my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your husband and Dad and our Uncle Neal. His smile and Irish blue eyes made him so special! He took an interest in everyone and made us each feel special. I know he was happiest at the lake and Sand Lake was a special place to him. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Love to you! I remember Neal coming over to our cabin one Sunday to borrow something. His family and our family had just come back from Mass. As he left our cabin, he said "I love you, neighbor!" He was putting into practice what the homily was all about that particular Sunday---loving your neighbor. That stuck with me because in those days, it was unusual to express love verbally to non-family members, and he was willing and able! He will be dearly missed.

Susan and the Gallagher family: Sending my largest thought bubbles to all of you. I read that he was a very lucky man to have his wife along with 11 children and their families - how blessed he was. Remember him, share all your stories with all your families - share your laughter as he will remain in your hearts forever.

Well, Sand Lake will never be the same. If there was one guy who personified the north side of that lake it was Neal. There ought to be a moment of silence this summer in his memory. Ideally, everyone would turn off their circular saws at the same time; all the electric drills would be unplugged and all the rider mowers shut down.

I will toast that wonderful Irishman with a glass of Jameson this evening. Here's to a grand life. They don't make 'em like that anymore.
