Age 86 ~ Of North Oaks Passed away on November 1, 2012 He passed away peacefully surrounded by his children. Allen graduated from Iowa State University in 1947 with a degree in Chemical Engineering. Later that year he started to work for the 3M Company and spent the rest of his 44 year career with 3M, retiring as its Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer. In addition, he served on several other corporate boards. He cared a great deal for the communities in which he lived. He chaired the United Way of St. Paul Campaign, served on the board of the Ordway Theatre and was very involved with Habitat for Humanity and the Boy Scouts. Allen was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, to whom he was married nearly 30 years, and his sister, Mary Lynn. He is survived by his three children, Allen, Jr., Holly, and Paul; grandchildren, Chelsea, Jason, Owen and Ryan; son-in law, Mohamad and daughters-in-law, Dana and Kelly. Allen loved hunting, photography, reading, spending time with family and friends and his beautiful yard. Allen was generous with his time and resources, worked hard, and enjoyed life. He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Memorial Service Tuesday, November 6, 2pm at The House of Hope Presbyterian Church, 797 Summit Avenue, St. Paul, with a reception to follow in the Kirk Parlor of the church.
