Edward Lewis MEARS II Obituary
Ed, Eddie, Big Ed, Mr. Ed, Fast Eddie, Darling and Sweetie Age 74 of St. Paul. Our gentle giant lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at home 5:42am on Saturday, May 4, 2013. Preceded in death by his mother Marie Hansen Mears; father Edward Lewis Mears; grandmother Borghild Hansen, many aunts, uncle, and cousin Art Ninke. Survived by his high school sweetheart Willa Jean; half-brothers Michael and Dr. William Mears of California; cousins Jan Wilslev of Colorado, Dick Hansen and cousin-in-law Ardis Ninke of Minnesota; nieces, nephews, Godchildren Rob Hollenkamp, Ryan and Jenny Cafferty; and many friends. Humboldt High School class of 1956; attended Hamline University. Ed worked at Great Northern, Burlington Northern and BNSF Railroads with retirement after 40 years. Thank you to Dr. Michael Bozivich, his nurse Judy; Dr. Domingo Perez and the Minnesota Oncology personnel who attended to Ed's welfare since September 2012; Healtheast Hospice Care personnel Jill, Deb, Jeannie, Beth, Carla and Chaplain Norm. A loving thank you to Charles and Aaron Hilborn for all the loving care shown to Ed during his journey from this life. And to Deb and Don Hansen, Ray Wolff and Gene Cafferty, you were awesome. Ed loved his dear friends from all walks of his life. As well as Humboldt '56/'57 Saturday breakfasts at Capitol View; Humboldt '56 Monthly Men's luncheons at Josephs then up to Applebees for the girls luncheon conversation; Friday's, a movie and dinner with Gene, Ray and Willa. Also, Mancini's live band Friday nights plus last Wednesday of month steak dinner with his old city league basketball teammates; 5:15 Sunday's at Randolf Street Carbone Pizza since 1962. Social dancing; golfing; basketball; baseball; tennis; and youth broomball. From Ed-"I love you all. May God bless you and thank you for being part of my life." There will be no service per Ed's request. But, there will be a "Celebration of Life" luncheon for Edward, on Tuesday May 14th from 12 noon to 3:00pm at the Prom Center, 484 Inwood Ave, Oakdale, off of 94 East. 612-825-2435
