Joseph Odilon Rodriguez Obituary
Age 90 St. Paul, Macon, San Diego Humble, holy, man, wonderful father and affable friend. Joe died April 7, 2012 with his family at his side. His sense of humor and zest for life were contagious, and this legacy was passed to his sons. JoePa spent his life enriching the lives of others as an English, French and Spanish teacher. He touched countless lives with his gentle, patient ways as a formal and informal teacher. JoePa was reared in Port Arthur, Texas and educated entirely by the Christian Brothers in Louisiana and New Mexico. He earned Masters Degrees in French from the University of Aix en Provence and one in English from Florida State. He married Jamie Ann Mitchell, Memphis; they made their home in Chula Vista, CA for 33 years. Retirement led them to Macon, GA. When his beloved Jamie preceded him in death, he moved to St. Paul in 2006 to be near his son Joseph (Jane) and granddaughters Olivia (18) and Elise (14). He had many loves in his life: the Catholic Church, his wife of 40 years, his sons and granddaughters. He enjoyed attending weekly sessions of the Just Friends big band with Joe, travel to his beloved France with family and friends, watching birds at the family cabin, a beer and lively discourse with friends, singing in the church choir, and delivering limitless puns. In addition to his wife Jamie, he was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters, and companion Dorothy Trembley. In addition to his son Joe, he is survived by son Bill (Michele), Tampa, and many friends. There will be a visitation and music from 5-7 PM Thursday at O'Halloran and Murphy Funeral Home, 575 Snelling Ave. S., St. Paul (651-698-0796) followed by a Prayer Service at 7 pm. Burial will be in Macon, GA. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Avenues for Homeless Youth, avenuesforyouth.org or Totino-Grace High School Lasallian Scholarship Fund, TotinoGrace.org. A special thanks to the staff at Wellington Assisted Living and the staff of St. Croix Valley Hospice for helping us guide Grandpa from this life.
