Obituary Condolences

of the Twin Cities Emily was born 7/20/1914 to Sina & Andrew Elvestrom in Bricelyn, MN. She passed away November 17, 2012 at age 98. She grew up with 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended grade school in Bricelyn and graduated from high school in Blue Earth, MN. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, SD, 1931-35, graduating with a degree in teaching. Emily took graduate studies at UCLA, 1972-73 in Library Science. Her first teaching job was at Howard High School in Howard SD and at Sioux Falls High School in Sioux Falls, 1936-40. She met her husband Arndt Halvorson at Augustana College and they married on June 17, 1940 in Sioux Falls after Arndt graduated from Luther Seminary in St. Paul. Arndt and Emily served Lutheran parishes in Casper, WY; West Hempstead, NY; Forest City, IA; Minneapolis, MN and Prescott, AZ. In 1958, Emily & Arndt moved to St. Paul, MN where she worked at Lutheran Nurses Guild, 1962-65, and as a Librarian at Mounds Midway School of Nursing and Midway Hospital, 1966-1979. Emily & Arndt had 6 children. Emily was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arndt; son, Richard and daughter, Karen Hedland; brothers, Benjamin, Victor and Arnold Elvestrom and sisters, Adelia Mundale and Sally Olson. Living children who are celebrating her life are daughter, Gretchen Mannix, Sara Johnson (Randy), Martha Knutson (Richard); son, Leonard Halvorson (Karen); daughter-in-law, MaryAnn Solmonson (Al) and son-in-law, John Hedland. Emily delighted in the birth and lives of each of her 17 granchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Emily will be missed dearly by her family and friends as we remember her love of life, her spirit, her humor and her love of her Lord Jesus. Memorial service 2PM, Tuesday, November 20, at St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church, 2323 Como Ave., St. Paul, MN 55108. Visitation 1-2PM, Tuesday at church. Private interment Sunset Cemetery.
