March 13, 1921 - January 28, 2014 LaVerne was born in Litchfield, North Dakota. Her family moved to the Twin Cities when she was very young and LaVerne grew up in the Minneapolis suburbs. LaVerne met the love of her life, Herbert Cherry, at the first Aquatennial celebration. LaVerne was modeling and Herbert was in the swimming and diving events. They were married May 2, 1944. LaVerne loved dancing, big band music, bridge, old movies, good chocolate, but most of all she loved Herb and her family. They lived in Hopkins and Mendota Heights and then in 1970 moved to Chicago. December 25, 1997 Herbert died and LaVerne later made her home in Scottsdale, Arizona. LaVerne was strong and vibrant and a lady at all times. She could always be counted on to give support to her children and to champion her family. They instilled in all their children a love for family, the joy of laughter, and an appreciation for hard work and a job well done. LaVerne is survived by her six children. Diane McShane, Tom Cherry, Nancy Harris, Judy Pollick, John Cherry and Susan Pollick; 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. We will miss her dearly and when we see a beautiful tree or watch an old movie we will be thinking of her. A memorial service for the family will be held at Cedar Lake in Minneapolis in the summer.

Dear family of LaVerne,
Your Mom was a real delight. We got to know her when she shared the dining table with my mother (Frances) at the Manors Village in Scottsdale and then even more as they were cross-the-hall neighbors at Scottsdale Memory Care. My mother will miss LaVerne as will we. She was such a delightful lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with her and your entire family.
