Ruth A. Tschida Obituary
nee Koempel Age 88, of St. Paul Born: May 16, 1924. Died: July 29, 2012. Preceded in death by husband, Robert G. Survived by children, Michele (Johan) Wadenstierna, Stephanie (Jack) Grundtner, Meri-Ruth (Wayne) Pflughoeft, R. Gregory (Mary) Tschida, Jacqueline Punch (Jaye McGruder). Grandmother of Emily (Eric) Milles, Clare (Charles) Koch, John Grundtner ( fiancée Stephanie Taft), Joseph Grundtner, Matthew Pflughoeft (Kathryn Wegner), Elizabeth (Matthew) Schroeder, Michael (Barbara) Tschida, Katherine (James) Kavanaugh, Robert Punch and Kirsten Punch. Sister, Patricia (Theodore) Muller. Many nieces and nephews. Ruth graduated from St. Mark's grade school, St. Paul Central High School and St. Catherine's College. Ruth was very involved for many years at St. Mark's Catholic Church and school. She was a member of the Central Girls Luncheon Group and the Council of Catholic Women. She was an accomplished academic, violinist and teacher. She earned a full scholarship to St. Catherine's College where she double majored in art and music with an education minor, certified to teach K-12. Ruth married the love of her life, Bob Tschida, in 1949 and they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Bob's death in 2010. Ruth performed for many years including several years with her beloved sister, Pat, and dear friend, MaryAnn Costanzi, in two trios; Trio Con Brio and the Velvet Strings. Ruth had life-long passions for music, teaching and children. She was a Chair of the Women's Philharmonic for the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and taught for several years in the St. Paul Schools before her retirement. Ruthie/Nama brought joy and happiness to all she touched. She was a loving wife, phenomenal mother and devoted grandmother. She embraced others and had an extended network of neighbors, students and friends who loved her. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word to everyone. Many thanks to the caring staff at Home Instead, Sunrise of Roseville, and Regions Hospital-Cardiac Care Unit. Memorials preferred to St. Catherine's College, Highland Friendship Club and the . Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Saturday, August 4 at the CHURCH OF ST. MARK, 2001 Dayton Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104. Visitation Friday, August 3, from 4 -7 PM at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105 and at the church ½ hour prior to Mass. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery. 651-228-1006
