Father Thomas Dubay

66 years a Marist 60 years a Priest Marist Father Thomas Dubay fell asleep in the Lord Sunday, September 26, 2010 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He was 88 years old. The results of a CT scan determined that he had an extensive amount of bleeding on the brain. Predeceased by his parents Elie and Leah Dubay and siblings Deacon Frank Dubay and Norma Schepers. Survived by his sisters, Vernanne Paquette (Minneapolis) and Marie Dubay (Australia) his brothers Elie (Minneapolis) and Alan (New Caledonia, Fiji Islands), nieces, nephews, and his religious community, the Marist Fathers and Brothers. A native of Minneapolis, he was born on December 30, 1921. A 1939 graduate of De La Salle High School he subsequently entered the minor seminary of the Marist Fathers at South Langhorne, PA and after his novitiate made his Marist profession on September 8, 1944. His philosophy and theology years were spent at Marist College, Washington, D.C. Marist Bishop Michael Keyes ordained him to the priesthood on June 8, 1950. Father Dubay received both a master's and a doctorate in Education from The Catholic University of America. His teaching assignments included positions at Marist School (Atlanta), Notre Dame Seminary (New Orleans), Saint Joseph's Manor (Bettendorf, Iowa), Russell College (Burlingame, CA) and Chestnut Hill College (Philadelphia). For ten years he was in residence at the Little French Church of Saint Louis, King of France, Saint Paul, MN, a parish entrusted by Archbishop John Ireland to the pastoral care of the Marist Fathers in 1886. An internationally recognized spiritual director and a prolific author, he wrote articles in more than a dozen journals and periodicals and well over two dozen books. He assisted a number of sisters congregations in rewriting their constitutions, and gave retreats in the USA and overseas. Father Dubay was also a very popular televangelist and appeared on quite a number of EWTN series and programs. Funeral Mass and Burial in Washington, DC Thursday, October 7.
