Yvonne L. "Sally" (GILBERTSON) NELSON Obituary
Age 86 Passed Away on May 3, 2013 Preceded in death by beloved husband Irwin of 67 years, parents, 4 brothers and 2 sisters. Survived by sons, Steven (Cynthia), Gregory (Deborah), grandchildren, Brent (Katie), Craig (Katie), Carrie (James) Gentz, Marla, and Beth, great-grandchildren, Joseph, Julianne, Riley, Amelia, and brother, Richard Gilbertson, sister, Elizabeth Hildahl, She will be missed by many brothers and sister in laws, nieces and nephews and friends. Sally was born in Slayton, MN on July 31, 1926 and grew up on a farm near Fulda, MN and moved with the family to Stanchfield, MN finishing school in Braham, MN. She met Irwin in Braham and they were married on his return from WWII and made their home in St. Paul. Sally was deeply involved in her community at Hamline Methodist Church and enjoyed managing the dining hall with Irwin at the State Fair, helping with teas and other special activities at the church. Sally and Irwin enjoyed time at "the cabin" in Wisconsin, winters in Palm Springs, and most of all, time with family. She will be remembered for her hard work, even in her most senior years a day was not well spent without creating more red aprons for the church restaurant, pillow cases for the kids, gardening or projects. She loved her time with the three new baby great grand-daughters. The family would like to thank the loving and skilled staff at Timber Hills Presbyterian Home for their excellent care of Sally and kindness to the family. We will miss our Mom and Gma and her ever thoughtful words of advice. Funeral service Thursday, May 9th at 10:30 am at Hamline United Methodist Church, Englewood and & Asbury. Visitation 4-8 pm Wednesday at Holcomb-Henery-Boom-Purcell, 515 W. Hwy 96, Shoreview. Private interment Ft. Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials in Sally's honor directed to "Seniors Club" at Hamline United Methodist Church.
