Remembering Marie on the 11th anniversary of her passing. The last two times I visited with her - one of her last trips to England to buy antiques before she retired, when I lived in England, and in September of 2011 when I visited MN preparatory to moving back here. By the time I moved, in December, she was gone. When I first moved to the Twin Cities in 1984 with her son Doug, she was a lifesaver to me. So generous with her time and gifts and we had just met! I will always remember Marie with great fondness.

My mother, Marie, together with her first husband made at least one extended visit to Mississippi in the early 1960s to help African Americans register to vote. They made out a will and made plans for the adoption of their children in the event they didn't come back alive. At various times since the early 1950s Marie participated in union organizing drives, strike support work, and Civil Rights advocacy.

Marie Haff was a great mother in law and friend. I knew her for 23 years and it was too short a time.

Marie moved in next to Suka-Rama last year and very quickly volunteered her wealth of knowledge and experience as an experienced small business owner and past resident of St. Anthony Park. Marie became an employee in December of 2010 and was, for a time, my only employee. I could not have kept Suka-Rama running through the first half of 2011 without Marie's dedication and support. She always had ideas and words of support and was more than generous with the time she dedicated to Suka-Rama. She became a good friend, and I miss her very much.

Marie was a good friend to me for 27 years and I was privileged to be able to spend a few hours with her in September after a gap of several years. She was a very special lady and I will miss her.
