Yvonne Josephine (ERICKSON) McCOMBER Obituary
Age 81 of White Bear Lake Went peacefully home to eternal rest on Saturday, May 10, 2014 while recuperating from surgery at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN. Yvonne was born in Hibbing on August 5, 1932 to Arnold "Porky" Erickson and Josephine "Pep" (Koslucher) Erickson. Raised in Little Swan, she was a graduate of Hibbing High School Class of 1950 and received her teaching degree from The College of St. Scholastica in 1954. Yvonne believed in lifelong learning, passing that belief on to her children and grandchildren. Her teaching career began in Duluth at Lester Park Elementary School, followed by many years at St. Mary of the Lake Elementary School in White Bear Lake. She continued as Administrative Assistant to the President, Development Associate and Alumni Director at Hill-Murray High School in Maplewood, retiring in 2004. On February 8, 1958 she married her high school classmate Alfred Joseph McComber III of Hibbing at Blessed Sacrament Church. They raised their five children in White Bear Lake where Yvonne supported their many activities. She was a member of the Hill-Murray Mother's Club, Twin Cities Slovenians, Ladies of the Lake Quilt Society, and served on the Alumni Board at The College of St. Scholastica. Her love of music was expressed in many ways, not the least of which was singing with the Scola Choir at St. Mary's of the Lake Church, along with other activities in the church family. Yvonne is survived by her husband Alfred, her sister Nancy Jean Erickson Pajunen (Edward) of St. Paul, MN, brothers William "Bill" Erickson of Hibbing & Lt.Col (Ret) US Army Ian Paul Erickson of Leavenworth, KS, children Alfred "Mick" McComber IV (Lynn Oehlke) of Esko, MN, Timothy McComber, Maplewood, MN, Christian McComber (Nancy Nord) of Andover, MN, Mary Jo McComber Wertzler (Paul) of Rochester, MN and Jed McComber (Jennifer Hoffarth) of Keller, TX and 13 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Lois Erickson Bayliss. Funeral services will be at St. Mary of the Lake Church on Friday, May 16 at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch at Kohler Hall. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 15 from 5-8 p.m. at Honsa Family Funeral Home and at 10:30 a.m. at the church on Friday.
