Anna B. LAWLER Obituary
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother Born April 3, 1928 Died peacefully surrounded by family May 29, 2014, after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her parents Julia and Nicholas Baltic, sister Mitzi, brother John and his wife Nyda. Survived by husband of 55 years Kevin, brother George, children Julie (Chuck Lewis), Mary Margaret and Kevin (Jenny Heineman) and grandchildren Sanjay, Anjuli, Maisie, Avery, Nora and Willa Rose. Anna's parents emigrated from Serbia to Detroit, Michigan, where she was born. Her experience as a first generation American was formative in her life. She received a BS from Wayne State University and worked as a medical technologist at Detroit Receiving Hospital where she met Kevin, then a medical resident. Anna went on to earn a Master's degree in Public Health from UMN later in life. She was active in Minnesota politics on behalf of the Pro Life movement, attending two national political conventions as a Minnesota delegate. In 1993, she survived a liver transplant at the Mayo Clinic as the Clinic's oldest (then) liver transplant patient. Anna was most proud of being a loving full-time wife, mother and grandmother. She was a brilliant, vibrant person who loved life. She will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the medical and nursing staffs at Abbot Northwestern and the Mayo Clinic and Dr. James Giefer for their loving care of Anna in life and as she approached the end of life. A funeral memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on June 3 with visitation June 2 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Johnson Peterson Funeral Home 612 S. Smith Ave. St. Paul. Memorials may be sent to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life.
