Roy Carl Carlson

Born to Nels H. & Alfhild Carlson on May 4, 1937, Minneapolis, MN. Died on April 11, 2011 at the age of 73 at the VA Hospital. A 1955 graduateof Robbinsdale High School, he served in the US Army (1956-1959),stationed in Germany. Roy earneda BS Degree (Industrial Education, 1965) and MS Degree (Vocational Education, 1968), UW Stout in Menomonie, WI; and attended Bethel Seminary in Roseville, MN (2003-2004). Due to his love for carpentry, he taught Industrial Education (1965-1970). Roy served District 14A in the MN State House of Reps. (1974-1976). Roy was proud of his Swedish heritage. As a member of the American Swedish institute, he desired to promote tourism, while owning and operating the Ann River SwedishMotel, Mora, MN (1990-2002). Most recently, he was actively involved in Sr. Citizen Ministries. Roy is lovingly survived by his five children: Connie (David) Beckman-Oak Grove MN, Sherri (Brian) Johnson- Zimmerman, MN, Cary Carlson- Brooklyn Center, MN, Terri Carlson & Mary Carlson-Golden Valley, MN; four grandchildren: Nathan, Noah, Rachel, and Hannah Beckman; sister, Sharelyn (Jack) Swanson- Maple Grove, MN; two nephews: Dr. Gregory Swanson-Appleton WI, Thomas Swanson-Apple Valley, MN; many cousins,extended family, and dear friends. Roy's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the exceptional care he received at the VA Hospital.
