Vernon LeRoy Peterson Obituary
"Captain Bud" Age 86, of Bloomington Passed away in peace on May 17, 2012 surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer. Preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Esther; wives, Eleanor and Ann. Survived by children, Linda (Lowell) Singerman, Bonnie (A.J.) McDonald and Jack (Patti) Peterson; step-daughter, Joanne Kvalsten; 5 grandchildren, Rita, Alex, Samantha, Travis and Zak; sister, Virginia Prest; many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bud was born in Mpls. was baptized and confirmed at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, graduated Roosevelt H.S. and he life guarded at Lake Nokomis. He served in the Seabees during WWII, primarily in Hawaii after Pearl Harbor. Though he started his professional career in masonry/construction, he later became a Captain on the paddlewheel boat (Jubilee) in Stillwater, then onto the Mississippi on numerous boat (Viking Explorer, Jonathan Paddleford, Josiah Snelling, Spirit of Dubuque, Mississippi Belle and the Casino Rock Island). He also was active in many theatrical venues, a charter member of Bloomington Civic Theater, Morris Park Father Singer and the Fogie Follies. He not only built sets, handled lighting, but starred as a comedy lead in many productions. He was known for his deep commanding bass voice. He also loved scuba diving. He was a fix-it genius and helped many with their projects. There was always a water theme in dad's life, life guarding, Navy, scuba diving to the river boats --- it all started with his baptism. He will be deeply missed by many.
