Reverend Leman Olsenius Obituary
OLSENIUS Rev. Leman Pastor Emeritus Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church Reverend Leman Olsenius, a minister who guided congregations for 73 years in Galesburg, Illinois, St. Paul and Stillwater, Minnesota died peacefully on Saturday, October 6, at 100 years of age. In 1953, Rev. Olsenius was called to Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church on the east side of St. Paul, Minnesota where he and wife Doris served for 24 years. Olsenius retired from G.A. Lutheran Church in 1977 (he was later honored by the parish when he was given the title of "Pastor Emeritus"). Leman Olsenius was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Doris; by his brothers, Gunnar and Evald; and by a special lady friend, Helen Anderson. He is survived by his daughter Donna, married to Pastor Hilton Hammer of Oak Grove, and son Richard Olsenius and wife Christine of Annapolis, Maryland. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Matthew Hammer and Sarah (Sean) Williams, and three great-grandchildren, Brian, Casey and Blair. A celebration of Pastor "O's" long, well-lived life will take place on Friday, October 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, 1669 N. Arcade St. (Hwy 61), St. Paul, Minnesota. There will be a time for Visitation beginning at 10 a.m., prior to the Memorial Service. (A Choir for the Day is being formed and any past, present or other interested singers are welcome to come raise your voices in song. There will be a brief rehearsal before the service at 10 a.m.) Private interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family of Leman Olsenius prefers that any memorials be given to Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, Gustavus Adolphus College, or to donor's choice. They also want to extend a heartfelt expression of gratitude to GracePointe Crossing Gables West and to the Allina Hospice Team for the loving care during Leman's residency.
